Mandate

The mandate of the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate is to ensure the rights and interests of children and youth are protected, their views are heard, they have access to services and their complaints related to these services receive appropriate attention. The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate provides information and recommendations to government and its agencies and to communities about the availability, effectiveness, responsiveness and relevance of services to children and youth.

All children have the right to be protected from all forms of violence, abuse, neglect or maltreatment.

Services

The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate’s core services include:

  • Individual advocacy
  • Systemic advocacy
  • Investigations and reviews in response to individual complaints or systems issues
  • Public education and outreach on the rights, interests and viewpoints of children and youth
